Free Disk Space - Windows

Some ways to free up disk space (primarily on system drive):

1. First thing you need to do is run the "Disk Cleanup" utility provided by Microsoft.
Simply search for the utility in start menu OR right click the drive you want to clean -> Properties -> Click "Disk Cleanup"

2. Next thing you can do is clean winsxs folder (Windows Side-by-Side).
This folder contains different versions of (system as well as application) components. You can easily clean the old unused version by running following command in elevated mode (Search "Command Prompt" -> Right click -> Run as administrator):
DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /SpSuperseded

3. Next you can clean the Local Install Source (C:\MSOCache). This folder contains a copy of files from the Microsoft Office installation media and used on repair or feature installation of Microsoft Office.
Deleting this folder will disable the repair functionality and can lead to failure in applying office updates.
You can move this folder to another drive say E:\MSOCache and the update all the references of MSOCache in regedit.

4. Move Outlook's ost file to different drive.

Close Outlook -> Move the ost file from "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook" -> Open "Control Panel" -> Mail -> E-mail Accounts -> Data Files -> Doble click row in the table -> Advanced -> Uncheck "Use Cached Exchange Mode" -> Apply -> Outlook Data File Settings -> Disable Offline Use -> OK -> Outlook Data File Settings -> Select new ost location -> OK -> Check "Use Cached Exchange Mode" -> OK -> Close -> Start Outlook

If you are still not satisfied, you can cleanup some system files.

5. hiberfil.sys. This file is used to save the state of System RAM when you hibernate the system and size of this file is same as size of your RAM. If you don't ever hibernate your system (Sleep is the best option in Win7), you can save that disk space by running following command in elevated mode:
powercfg -hibernate off

6. pagefile.sys. Don't ever think of deleting this file, Windows will stop working. This file is used as a virtual RAM if you start more and more applications and system goes out of RAM. Size of this file will generally be equal to size of RAM. But as modern systems are coming with RAM sizes like 8GB or so, size f virtual memory can be decreased.
Right click "My Computer" -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Advanced -> Performance "Settings..." -> Advanced -> Virtual Memory "Change..." -> Uncheck "Automatically Manage......" -> Select "C:" -> Custom size: -> Initial size: say 1000MB -> Maximum size: say 2000MB

By now you must have freed more than 10 GB of space. But if you still need more space in you system drive you can use a small tool WinDirStat (Google it!!) which will tell you which files and applications on your system are taking up space and you can move them to other drive.

Happy Cleaning Drive :) :)

Lohri Bash

Lohri, the 13th of this January is my most memorable lohri till now thanks to all the event and stories that happened that night. This time party was organized at our place with all the arrangements made for lohri celebrations and specially 'daaru' (My department was music as in all parties, be it with friends or at home).

This time I was the one who was not drinking. This has disadvantages as well as advantages (which I will tell later).

I left early from office for this party which I didn't know at that moment that it was going to be so rocking. We made arrangements for lighting and music and had all the party stuff gathered downstairs. As people started coming we started arranging wood for lohri. Now, still waiting for some friends to come, many guys couldn't resist the liquor bottles present with all the lohri stuff. And there they go - started the first round. First round means all started and had a scotch glass or beer can (and some like me with juice) in their hands and after that countless rounds went off.

Meanwhile, a cute neighbor’s kid came near arranged lohri wood and started dancing to the punjabi tunes being played on my homemade speakers. Now he was the centre of attraction and many guys started clicking photos with him. This cute neighbor kid (marked 'Padosiyan da Munda' in my facebook pics ;-) gave a cute smile on asking him to show his teeth eeeeeeeee :-)

Finally the late comers came and we lit up the lohri and started dancing and dancing and dancing (ohh did I forgot drinking).

Everyone was dancing and drinking as they had never before. Some of the guys started dancing near the lohri stuff so that they don't have to go too far to refill their glass.

And after drinking everyone wants to become a DJ and plays his choice song. So, the situation was no song was played for more than 10 seconds as the next DJ would come and start the song of his choice. Some were enjoying even this too much as they were so drunk to know which song was being played. The joke of dancing on generator beats after drinking suits them best.

Here comes the disadvantage of not drinking in a party - You have to handle others and party itself.

Now, the scene was that many guys were dancing and drinking near the lohri. Some were just drinking standing nearby with daaru glasses and bottles decorated on the parked cars. Some guys were sitting with closed hands and eyes in front of fire. I don't know what they were doing, worshipping maybe or simply drunk. I even remember one guy puking far away. There is some construction going on near our home and hence laid huge piles of small concrete stones (bajri) which was acting like a maharaja suite bed for some and toilet for some.

In the middle, one of the guys completely 'set' was asking other one to help him do some 'personal work'. Other guy amazed asked 'What?’ Actually he just wanted second guy's hand as he wanted to pee (don't think wrong, just for support, again don't think wrong). Second guy took him away, rested his hand on a tree and got away. God know what patterns he made when he was so drunk.

Now comes the Mr. X's story. Mr. X is a guy from my roommate's company. My roommate asked me to prepare a peg for him. He is completely 'out' still I was making a large peg for him but no, he insisted to add more and again some more. I thought let it be. He came upstairs with me and one of my colleagues and saw my guitar and there he was: a big fan of my guitar. He insisted me to play songs and I started playing 'papa kehte hain'. oh God I was practicing for so many months and my flat mates were fed up of listening it and now I have got someone who was listening and enjoying the song (maybe because he was drunk or he was fan of the guitar, but he was enjoying).

After some time, we came down as one neighbor came complaining for the noise and we stopped the music but party continued. However, many people started leaving and people with nearby homes or completely 'tull' people remained. We were making plans for dinner and bringing some pranthas. And rest of people came upstairs including all the 'tull' guys.

(Now comes various stories and mysteries)
After some time I was helping one of my roommates to washroom and there we saw a chair stuck in the washing machine. He removed the chair from the machine (which he later forgot as he was also 'set') and there we saw some yellow powder lying in the machine. This mystery of yellow powder was solved in the morning when we found an empty 'Complan' pack behind the machine. God knows what someone was doing with the washing machine. Maybe he was using Complan as a detergent to wash clothes and he was not able to find anything to wash so put the chair in it for washing. If anyone reading blog knows please reply as this mystery is still not solved.

Back in the drawing room complete 'mehfil' was set and there I saw someone passing the transparent water jug with some yellow liquid in it.
Fortunately or unfortunately the guys passing the jug dropped it and bang all the contents of the jug were now kissing the floor. The dirt and sand in all the shoes made the floor look terrible. However, the mystery of that yellow liquid was still there in my mind. Later we thought of many options for the same. It could be some leftover whisky mixed with water as someone was still not done with drinking. Or it could be that complan powder mixed in water (Maybe someone needed some energy after so much drinks). Or the worst option I don't want to think of. If anyone reading blog can throw some light please enlighten us.

After the parantha dinner many guys started leaving. Even some of drunken guys were leaving assuring they are fine. So, Mr. X (I guess most drunk among all) also decides to leave, but there was one problem he was not able to remember his home address. When asked he clearly told his hometown's address, but noida address....no way. Multiple answers were coming, sometimes sector 9, sometimes sector26 and even sector 4. So we asked him to stay at our place but no, the guy was not interested in staying here. He was ready to go to office and do work there (even in that condition). Somehow we convinced him to stay and came in other room and started discussing day's events. After some time we realize Mr. X is not in the house and the main door and gate were open. Then I decided to start 'Mr. X's Search' along with my friend at 1 AM in night in that shivering cold. We asked some guys still standing down about him and they directed us to a gate where they saw him going. We couldn't find him there and asked the watchman at other gate and he also said some guy with same description went from there. Now, we were searching him totally confused from which gate he went and in which direction. We went to his company and told the company guards to keep Mr. X there and don't let him go if by any chance he shows up. Empty handed we came back after searching him near our house and his company and thought now only God is with him. Next morning we came to know he reached the company safely and slept there.

We went to bed and next morning everyone started telling his stories. We were figuring out the yellow powder mystery and I heard a faint voice of one of my roommates who was calling me. I searched him and found him lying on the toilet seat. I helped him to his bed and his hangover continued all the day.
Later, we got reports of one more guy who went to his home and found himself sleeping in the bathroom next morning.

Now this is the fun part of not being drunk - enjoying stories next day when you remember the most of it.
Overall, I enjoyed a lot - party as well as the different experiences I had.

Piece of chicken

It all started with that piece of chicken.
I was trying to sleep in my cozy bed and this idea came to my mind and now i am here writing a blog on this with shivering hands in a cold dark room at 1 AM in night. Maybe I am still drunk :-).
People who know me well know that i don't drink and eat non-veg. I just taste it occasionally. :-) and few days back i thought not to eat and drink again.
But after today's party.......

After enjoying an awesome hour of bowling at TGIP when we entered the lounge-bar - Ice Cubes, I was in mood and then that piece of chicken started it all.
There was no veg item at our table or nearby tables and again i decided to TASTE it. And it was really good different from other chicken items i had in past. And i had more n more.
Now came the drinks, as everyone was having some glass in their hand, i also thought to grab one which i couldn't get before coz of great rush at bar counter. Again i thought lets have some hard drink today as i was already done with not having non-veg.
There came a vodka shot and i am simply sitting there having snacks as no one is ready to dance.
But my feet were tapping to music and i could see some other legs following the beats. They all talked to each other and bang!! next moment we were on the dance floor. Then there was no stopping from there and we danced all the evening on whatever tunes the DJ was playing. He stopped for a moment after some time but we couldn't stop and started singing DCH song ourselves. And the music started again and we danced and danced.

Now I am still sitting in this cold room trying not to disturb my roommate and couldn't write the story of delicious chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate syrup topping.

A Memorable Night

The 22nd night of August this year will always remain a memorable one.....what happened this night??? I got drunk.............yes yes yes i got drunk like this for the first time and enjoyed the night to the fullest.
In the evening I was returning from IIT delhi after meeting my cousin there and was deciding on the way whether to go to this party thrown by my manager's manager or not. And one of my colleagues called n asked whether I was going n there it goes; I decided.

I took my roommate with me and we set off. There at the party after meeting all the guys (there was no girl from my office :-( ) I took an apple vodka drink. It tasted awesome. As all my friends know, it started hitting me after 5-10 min. Then with music in the background, resting against a wall I was thinking what to do and i saw some people having taquila shots and my brain said Go For It.
I had the shot and it was great. I enjoyed the shot with my roommate and my colleagues and set off to dance with the music then running in background now making me sway with it. The Champagne too opened with the bang. After some time I had a Bloody Mary prepared by one of my colleague (Thanks a lot dude for the drink). By now, people near me thought I was gone but I assured it was ok (see i remember all this) and we went for another taquilla shot.
We danced all the night to the masti beats making us follow what they wanted (Thanks to the guy playing mostly punjabi beats). Same rain also poured in and we asked for more: "Rabba rabba meeh barsa", the famous punjabi song. The floor got slippery mostly from the beer in that big Heineken draught keg (spilled all over our clothes) but it made no difference. We danced and danced and the night continued.
then around midnight we bid goodbye and left off on bikes. My friend suggested not to do stunts on the bike in that condition :-) and I obeyed. Finally, I got to my bed dreaming about the wonderful night I had.

Matrix

science fiction taken to a new level....
most of people think this is just a fiction out of someone's mind and cannot be realized and movie is just a good action movie.
but i strongly believe in the concept and that it can be put to reality one day.

first bottleneck to it realization is the communication between human brain and a machine.
I am listing this as first as human brain is the most complex thing to understand. how brain is interacting with all parts of body and within the brain itself, which signal goes for performing all the actions of body and signal itself: a neural signal, how to capture it and in turn simulate it. and these signals will not be generic across all being i.e. different people can have different signals for same action.
however, this problem will be solved if people remain all the time in matrix. we will have a set of signals for a set of actions and brain will eventually leans to map agains proper set.
well some sort of these solutions are already there, we can capture the waves (EM etc. coming from brain)

next bottleneck will be the processing of all that data. we need to put all the laws of physics in the matrix and based on actions, reactions will take place. this looks to be easy writing a program for same once but good processing power is required for realtime processing of all the events. it cannot be the case that i am cutting an apple and it appears to be cut after a delay becoz processor was not able to process my request at that time.
then we have to generate real time 3D visuals for all the current scenes from all angles n people r viewing. we need to store the state of all the object n all and render 3d for that. now, this kind of tech. is already present for rendring 3D graphics in games etc.

now also v have many softwares and web sites for creating a virtual world.
So more advanced computing a powerful softwares with comm. with brain can bring this concept to reality.

Atom vs Solar System

i guess in every person's mind studying atomic structure and solar system this thing comes: compare these two systems
just some calculations for the same

Mass of proton : 1.6726 x 10^(-27) kg
Mass of neutron: 1.6749 x 10^(-27) kg
Mass of electron: 0.00091x10^(-27) kg = 9.109 3826(16) × 10^(-31) kg

Taking average of mass of proton and neutron and its ration with mass of electron
(Mp+Mn/2)/Me = 1839.28571428571428571428571428571

mass of earth = 5.9736×10^24 kg
mass of sun/mass of earth = 332830

1.52494017008169278157225123878398 x 10^55

relative mass of sun taking earth as an electron = 332830/1839.29 = 181

atomic no. of sun near to 90

90 protons
91 neutrons

means there are 90 planets around sun????

.
.
.
.
.

now, please forget all of this. this was just something lying in a corner of my mind which was pushed in an even darker corner when i learned about the probability models of atom, dual nature of matter etc.

these simple calculations cannot define relationship between atomic structure and universe but i do believe there is some missing link which can connect these two worlds and help solve problems in one world with simple laws of other world.
lets see if something comes up.
